Fixing and preventing errors in knitting (1 hour class)
Have you ever dropped a stitch and really didn’t know the best way to pick it up? Did you know you can prevent a knitting error before it happens? Let’s make knitting more fun so that you feel more confident as you work:)
We will cover:
- Correcting and picking up drop stitches
- Addressing common errors made in knitting: twisted stitches, unwanted extra stitches, counting rows and stitches
- Preventing errors: keeping track of where you are, understanding the instructions, lifelines and stitch markers
- Swatching: getting the right size, creating the fabric and testing out a pattern to see if it meets your needs
- The right tools for the job
Homework: Using worsted weight yarn in a light color and needle size US 6, 7 or 8 create two swatches. Cast on 30 stitches for each swatch. Create one swatch in stockinette stitch (Knit a row, purl a row), and the other in garter stitch (knit every row). Knit at least 20 rows. Do not bind off. Do not cut yarn strand. Leave the stockinette piece stitches on the needle and if you can, keep the garter piece on a needle also, if not transfer to a stitch holder. You will use these pieces of fabric to practice skills in class.
